In August 2007, a photographer in Malleville-sur-le-Bec found a strange object in one of his shots, taken with a powerful telephoto lens at about 1,800 meters from inside his car. Reviewing the sequence made clear it was a large bird taking off: it appeared in one frame and was gone in the next. The distance, zoom level, and the photographer's focus on his framing meant he never noticed the bird at the time. Such confusion is common when birds in motion go unnoticed by the naked eye.
