In September 2007, a witness in Tatinghem discovered an odd shape when reviewing a photograph they had taken without noticing anything unusual. Such cases have become more common with the spread of digital cameras. The image shows a light smudge, likely a bird or insect passing close to the lens, which explains the blur. A small grey spot at the centre is a minor device defect visible across all the witness's photos. GEIPAN classified the case as B: probably an animal crossing the camera's field of view.
