On 1 October 2007, a driver on the A27 motorway, just 5.5 km from the Belgian border, saw a dark grey delta-shaped object with white lights on the trailing edges of its wings. He estimated a wingspan of over one hundred metres. After pulling over about 400 metres away, he watched it hover over a field at roughly one hundred metres' altitude. Seconds later it tilted and moved off at 30–40 km/h.
An aircraft approaching Lille Lesquin airport was considered, but during reconstruction the observed plane was at a much greater height. A Thalys or TGV train was also ruled out, as the railway ran through a cutting with no line of sight. No satisfactory explanation was found.
