Summary

On 31 October 2016, a witness in Outreau saw two white or cream-coloured ovoid objects that gradually receded until they disappeared. Only one testimony was recorded. GEIPAN's analysis concluded the observer most likely mistook aircraft in flight: the sun behind them created reflections that made the planes appear wingless. At roughly 10 km altitude and 50 km distance, the aircraft subtended an angle of about 10 degrees, explaining the perceived ovoid shape. Variations in speed and spacing between the two could also have produced the illusion of coordinated parallel movement. The area sees regular air traffic, a fact well known to local residents.
