Around 20:45 on 18 March 2009, a witness in Mâcon saw roughly a dozen luminous spheres crossing the sky from south to north along the course of the river Saône. The phenomenon showed features consistent with flying lanterns, which are relatively common in the area. However, the absence of additional witnesses prevented confirmation. GEIPAN classified the case as C — no conclusive explanation due to insufficient data.
