In 1964, Canada's Department of National Defence recorded several reports of unidentified flying objects (UFOs). One of the most notable cases occurred on October 12, 1964, when a fisherman reported seeing a black, torpedo-shaped object emitting a purple flame. This sighting was investigated by Canadian authorities, including the Air Defence Command (ADC), who documented the incident in declassified files.
The report details that the object was observed at about 150 feet in the air, traveling southwest at high speed. The witness, a ship captain, described the phenomenon clearly, stating it was neither a meteorite nor a conventional aircraft. The location of the sighting was estimated to be about 30 miles southwest of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Station in Barrington, Nova Scotia.
This case, along with other similar reports, was part of a series of investigations conducted by the Canadian government in the 1960s, during a period of growing public interest in UFOs. Although no conclusive explanation was reached, the files show the thoroughness with which these reports were handled, including detailed interrogations and analysis of meteorological and astronomical conditions.
