In November 1969, the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) recorded several reports of unidentified flying object (UFO) sightings in Manitoba. One notable case occurred near Anola, where a couple observed a cylindrical object with flashing red lights moving in an up-and-down pattern. The witness described it as a luminous, silent object that disappeared suddenly from about a mile away. Another report from Brandon described a bright, warm light moving rapidly westward without making noise. These accounts, though inconclusive, were documented by the RCMP and sent to the NRC Meteorological Center for analysis. Despite the lack of conventional explanations, the reports highlight how Canadian authorities treated these cases with a degree of seriousness, albeit without much public attention.
Witnesses, including young adults and elderly individuals, were considered credible by the officers involved. In some cases, observers mentioned stationary fluorescent glows or objects moving at low altitudes, leading to confusion with natural phenomena or conventional aircraft. The RCMP, while not having a dedicated UFO program, followed procedures to record these events and share them with scientific institutions. Despite the absence of definitive answers, the files show how UFO sightings were part of a network of reports involving multiple divisions and government offices.
