In August 1971, several witnesses in the Strathlorne area of Nova Scotia reported an unidentified flying object. A man traveling along Highway 19 observed a fireball in the sky over the Cape Mabou district. The object, described as red and bright, was moving horizontally at low altitude before exploding and disappearing in a cloud of smoke. Other witnesses, including a local police officer, confirmed the sighting, although the object could not be identified. The area is wooded and difficult to access, complicating any ground search. Reports were filed without a clear explanation, and the case remains unresolved.
The RCMP report details the testimonies of witnesses and the difficulties in investigating the incident. Although several authorities, including CFB Penhold radar, were contacted, the object could not be identified. The descriptions provided by witnesses suggest it was not a common natural phenomenon, such as a fireball or meteorite, and there is no evidence it was an aircraft or rocket. The case was closed without a definitive conclusion, but the testimonies align on key details, adding credibility to the report.
