🇬🇧 Ministry of Defence
In December 1980, personnel at RAF Woodbridge in Suffolk reported a UFO sighting near the forest. According to declassified records, two USAF security guards observed unusual lights and a triangular object hovering or resting on legs. The story resurfaced in 1983 when the *News of the World* published an article about the incident, sparking public interest. The UK Ministry of Defence responded by stating there were no defense implications and no contact with extraterrestrials. Later, the BBC investigated and concluded the lights were simply from the Orfordness Lighthouse, about 6-7 miles away. Despite radar and eyewitness accounts, official authorities did not confirm the UFO, fueling speculation of a cover-up.
The Woodbridge case became one of the most famous UFO incidents in UK history. Although the alien landing theory was dismissed, questions remain about why authorities failed to provide a clear explanation. Witnesses claimed to see ground marks and lights that couldn’t be easily explained. The lack of transparency bred distrust, especially after documents suggested the authorities had received reports but did not release them. Despite later investigations, the mystery remains unresolved, and the incident continues to be debated among UFO researchers.
