🇬🇧 Ministry of Defence
This declassified Ministry of Defence document details two UFO sightings in 1994 and 1990. In February 1994, a man near Craigluscar, near Dunfermline, observed a metallic disc-like object with diffuse lights. Though he took photos, the MOD did not retain them and concluded there were no unusual radar returns. In August 1990, near Pitlochry, a large diamond-shaped object was reported to hover before ascending rapidly, with photos showing a jet identified as a Harrier. The MOD did not confirm the existence of UFOs but analyzed the reports to rule out aerial threats. These cases reflect the routine of the Ministry in assessing sightings.
The Ministry of Defence does not have a formal UFO policy but evaluates each report to determine if there are security implications. In both cases, no evidence of hostile activity was found. Photos and testimonies are reviewed by air defense staff, and if no threat is identified, further investigation is not pursued. While the MOD does not promote a stance on the existence of UFOs, it maintains records of reports and compiles them for future publication. These documents also show how the Ministry handles information requests under the Freedom of Information Act, respecting privacy and limiting investigations to national security concerns.
