CIA and UFO Letters

Summary

In April 1958, the CIA was handling a series of letters related to unidentified flying objects (UFOs). In this document, it is noted that the Air Force preferred to answer these inquiries directly rather than the CIA. Contact was made with Major Byrne and the matter was referred to Major Tacker, representing the Air Force Information Service. The idea was for the Air Force to respond directly to the letters, as they considered it their responsibility.

The CIA seemed to agree with this solution, viewing it as a useful precedent for future inquiries. It was decided to send the letters to Major Tacker and inform the recipients of this decision.
