🇺🇸 CIA
In 1953, the CIA formed a panel of scientists to evaluate reports on unidentified flying objects and assess their potential threat to national security. This led to a report classified as "secret." Years later, in 1957, due to growing public attention on CIA involvement in the topic, an unclassified version of the report was released, omitting any mention of the agency. This was an attempt to manage the information without revealing direct involvement.
In 1966, the Air Force requested the declassification of the original 1953 report, citing prior publicity as justification. During meetings with Air Force representatives, it was discovered that they already had access to a modified version of the report. Eventually, the CIA sent a fully declassified version of the report, marking a significant step toward transparency in a topic long handled with great care.
