In 1980, a Chinese science magazine published several eyewitness accounts of UFO sightings that occurred across the country during the 1970s. These reports, collected by the journal Kexue Shidai, describe unexplained aerial phenomena observed by ordinary citizens. From teachers to students and rural workers, witnesses described luminous, rotating, and silent objects that defied conventional explanations. Although no definitive conclusions were reached about their nature, the accounts reflect genuine curiosity about the unknown.
The testimonies include descriptions of disc-shaped, spherical, or nebula-like objects emitting white, yellow, or red lights. Some witnesses noted that the objects moved slowly or at a speed between that of an airplane and a meteorite. In several cases, observers reported that the objects disappeared suddenly after a few minutes of observation. Despite the lack of conclusive evidence, these accounts contributed to keeping the discussion about UFOs alive in China, showing how even in low-tech contexts, human curiosity about the inexplicable persists.
