Summary

In February 1953, the CIA submitted a report from a Scientific Panel on Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs), concluding that there was no direct threat to national security. This group of experts, led by scientists and military officers, reviewed hundreds of reports and evidence collected between 1951 and 1952. While unexplained phenomena were documented, the panel determined there was no conclusive evidence they were of extraterrestrial or hostile origin. Additionally, it noted that excessive attention to UFOs could divert resources and generate unnecessary alarm.

The report recommended that national security agencies reduce the importance given to UFO reports and focus on real threats. It also proposed improving public education to distinguish between real and false signals, and strengthening official channels to evaluate credible reports. Despite these conclusions, the report was classified for decades until its release in 1978, sparking significant interest in the scientific community and among UFO enthusiasts.
