🇺🇸 CIA
In August 1952, the CIA made a key decision by launching a formal project on "flying saucers." This move came after a suggestion from Colonel Odarenko, who wanted the P&E (Projects and Energy) division to maintain an updated record on the topic. The goal was not only to gather information but also to prepare an official stance in case it was needed. Each section of the division was called to contribute, and representatives were assigned in areas such as physics, electronics, and meteorology.
The meeting highlighted the importance of coordinating with ATIC, the unit responsible for maintaining global records on the phenomenon. There was a need to review previous studies in meteorology, radar, and other sciences, and to update data with recent reports. Additionally, the discussion addressed how to respond to external inquiries, ensuring that answers were consistent and based on verified information. Although no specific problem was addressed, the meeting marked the beginning of an organized effort to better understand a topic already generating interest and concern in the intelligence community.
