In January 1991, witnesses in the Moravia region (now Czech Republic) reported an unusual aerial phenomenon. A bright unidentified flying object was observed with a comet-like tail, occasionally dropping burning fragments. The object moved rapidly from north to south at high altitude between 23:17 and 23:20. Astronomers and observers confirmed the event, though its origin remained uncertain.

The most plausible hypothesis at the time was the destruction of a satellite or part of one re-entering Earth's atmosphere.
