In September 1969, several witnesses in the province of Girona observed two luminous objects in the sky. The sightings occurred at 17:30 and 17:50, with estimated altitudes between 25,000 and 30,000 feet. Witnesses included personnel from the local airport, who initially doubted their nature. However, after considering the characteristics of the phenomenon, it was concluded that they were likely French weather balloons, already known to the airport staff. These balloons were part of a regular CNES program, explaining their presence in the area. No further investigations were carried out due to the clarity of the explanation provided.
The official report from the Spanish Air Force classified the incident as non-suspicious and later declassified it. Although the objects could not be identified with certainty, the most plausible explanation pointed to weather balloons. This case reflects how military authorities handled sightings of unidentified objects, prioritizing scientific logic over speculation.
