Summary

In July 1973, a 12-year-old boy in Avondale Heights, Melbourne, captured a photograph of an unidentified aerial object (UAP) that was moving rapidly and changing colors. Bernard Schneiders and his friends were taking pictures of the Southern Cross constellation when they noticed the object. They described a luminous object moving at high speed, without a tail or noise, and making a sudden turn before hovering for several minutes. The photograph was analyzed by military experts, who suggested it could have been an optical phenomenon, such as a "flare spot" caused by the light of a streetlamp at the edge of the lens's field of view. Although no definitive explanation was reached, it was considered that the object might have been an atmospheric phenomenon or a commercial aircraft with landing lights. The case was closed without resolution, but the young observer's interest and report were acknowledged.
