Summary

In July 1973, a drama teacher in Melbourne, Victoria, reported an unusual aerial phenomenon that caught her attention. The object appeared in the northeast and moved in a curved path toward the northwest, maintaining a considerable altitude. She described the light as bright white with a yellowish tint, similar in size to Venus or the Moon, but elongated. The object remained visible for about two to three minutes before disappearing behind some trees. The observation was made from the roof of her house, and although no sound was detected, its movement was described as slow and deliberate.

The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) investigated the report and concluded that the object was most likely a civilian aircraft landing at Melbourne International Airport. Aircraft often turn on their landing lights at unusual altitudes, which could explain the appearance and behavior observed. Despite the lack of physical or photographic evidence, the official report considered there were no indications of unidentified phenomena or supernatural activity. The RAAF thanked the report and concluded no further investigation was necessary.
