In 1968, the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) recorded several reports of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) in Darwin, in northern Australia. A notable report describes a bright object observed on the night of January 26 of that year. A combat pilot and other witnesses reported seeing a pulsating white light with orange and red flashes, moving in an unusual manner. The light was observed for approximately 15 minutes, descending intermittently and changing direction. Despite investigations, no clear explanation for the phenomenon was found. The official report concluded that there was no conclusive evidence that the object was an aircraft or a known natural phenomenon.
The RAAF and other aviation authorities reviewed available data, including military and civilian aircraft activity in the area, but found no matches. Explanations such as meteors, satellites, or atmospheric effects were considered, but none were confirmed. The report also mentions that a witness, Mr. J. Lord, observed a similar object in July 1967, with similar characteristics, suggesting that these events were not isolated. Despite efforts to investigate, the phenomenon remains unexplained.
