On a heavily overcast day in May 1981, a family driving near Ternay made out an oval object with colored lights — white, blue-green, and red at the edges — hovering motionless and making no noise. The object eventually disappeared behind a woodland. No traces were found at the site the next day. After reviewing the case, GEIPAN concluded it was most likely a forestry vehicle working at night, whose lights, combined with darkness and the parallax effect from a moving car, created the confusion.
