On the night of March 2–3, 1989, two witnesses driving through the Sarthe region experienced a baffling episode: their car suddenly stopped and the headlights went out. At that moment they observed a fireball emitting intense reddish light moving from west to east. After passing the vehicle, the car started on its own. The witnesses were so shaken they questioned whether it had really happened.
Later, a woman from Le Mans contacted the witnesses after reading a local press article, claiming to have witnessed something similar. She added that her dog became visibly agitated during the phenomenon, reinforcing the idea that the experience was not imaginary.
