In 1967, a report published in Soviet media highlighted an increase in sightings of unidentified objects shaped like balloons and discs. R. Vitolnfyek, a station director, noted that while some cases had been explained, others remained mysterious. Radars detected large objects tens of kilometers high, whose appearance did not match satellites or rockets. Witnesses described color changes and a dull surface, suggesting interaction with electromagnetic waves.
Some scientists proposed that these phenomena might be giant plasma formations, similar to ball lightning. This theory could explain their ability to absorb radiation and become invisible under certain conditions. Although extraterrestrial theories were often dismissed, they were not considered impossible. The need for further research led to a call for the public to report any sightings, in order to better understand these events.
